Vehicle Impound Release’s and How the Law Affects Them

October 30, 2019

Towing and operating an impound lot for the RCMP and Enforcement Services in the City of Grande Prairie can pose some challenges. One of the most common problems we run into, is when someone tries to pick up an impounded vehicle.

From the Vehicle Seizure and Removal Regulation:

In plain English this passage says, that we can not release your vehicle before the seizure date is up, unless authorized by the Peace Officer or the Alberta Transportation Board. It also says that we as impound operators must verify that we are releasing the vehicle to its rightful owner or an agent of the owner. Seizure and removal costs must also be paid in full before the vehicle leaves the impound lot.

As you can see there are many things that may impede a vehicle pickup and this can obviously frustrate our clients. To help ease these frustrations we have created an Impounded Vehicle information page that clients can review.
