In late 2017 Mr. Wayne Drysdale MLA for the Grande Prairie Wapiti riding, introduced Bill 215 the Tow Truck Safety Act, which would allow tow truck operators to put blue and white beacons on their towing units. The bill died with no action taken on it and in late 2018 we initiated a letter writing campaign to then Transportation Minister Mr. Brian Mason of the NDP Party. Despite many many emails and written letters arriving to his office, we were effectively ignored and requests for a meeting to discuss the matter were turned down.
With the swearing in of the new Transportation Minister Ric McIver of the UCP party on Tuesday April 30th, we plan to renew our efforts on this letter writing campaign. We want this to be one of the first things Minister McIver focuses on in his new position.
As Albertan’s and tow truck operators we deserve and need this higher level of safety and hope with a fresh perspective in the office of the Minister of Transportation we can get it done. Please take a moment to write to Mr. McIver to voice your support for this change. You can click HERE and an email will automatically generate for you to send.
Alternatively if you would like you can download a fillable PDF copy of the letter HERE to preview or print.
Or should you want to create your own letter you can contact Minister McIver in the following ways:
